At Code Black Coffee, we believe good coffee is for everyone. We are in an exciting period of growth, and we have some pretty big goals that we want to achieve. To do so, we need to find an experienced Production Roaster to add to our established hard-working and knowledgeable roastery team. Code Black Coffee is simultaneously a laboratory, a workshop, and a hub for those who love coffee in all its forms.

We’re looking for someone who is obsessed with specialty coffee and has previous experience in coffee roasting and quality control.

Role Responsibilities

A successful Production Roaster will be able to achieve the highest standard of the following:

  • Accurately roasting coffee to predetermined specifications and procedures to ensure consistency
  • Maintaining roast profiles and logging roasts on appropriate software
  • Regularly cupping and evaluating coffee in Quality Control
  • Applying feedback from Quality Control to roast profiles to improve quality
  • Roaster maintenance and cleaning on a regular basis
  • Organising coffee inventory and general warehouse assistance
  • Communication and collaboration with Head Roaster and roasting team to ensure efficient and high-quality production standards

Skills you will bring:

  • High level of coffee expertise, ability and knowledge including the understanding of coffee origins, processes, and its relevance to roasted coffee
  • Ability to roast coffee to specification with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to cup coffee for quality control, tasting and evaluating roasting profiles
  • Ability to perform quality control protocols such as cupping, making espresso, and using a refractometer
  • Experience in appropriate use and maintenance of coffee roasting and coffee related equipment
  • Effective time and resource management to ensure work is completed efficiently and accurately
  • Professionalism and efficacy whilst working
  • Autonomous work ethic while also demonstrating initiative as required
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Ability to communicate clearly and constructively in a team environment
