We are seeking an experienced and motivated person to join the Student Assist Team at the Murdoch University Guild of Students. This is an office-based part-time role, providing advocacy, welfare advice, support and assistance to students on academic issues. This position will be offered for a term of 1yr initially with a view to permanent employment for the right candidate.
Previous experience in the area of client service within the Higher Education Sector will be highly regarded. The position requires the ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures, and to interact effectively with academics and students. The successful applicant will possess strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and be a team player.
The core responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
- Coordinating the emergency assistance program for students struggling financially.
- Providing individual assessment and an advice service to students in relation to income support, welfare rights, and other social matters.
- Providing an individual advice service to members in relation to academic issues.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- Relevant (minimum) undergraduate qualifications.
- In-depth knowledge of Australian VISA, immigration and employment regulations, particularly those affecting students from overseas.
- Experience working in an advisory/advocacy capacity, preferably in a community-based organisation.
- Experience working with non-native speakers of English.
- Well-developed organisational, analytical, administrative and negotiation skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain own boundaries while engaging closely with students.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Commitment to the principles of collective organisation and social justice.
Desirable
- Graphic design skills and/or qualifications; proficiency with Photoshop or similar software.
- Proficiency with database software.
- Experience in community building through social networks.
- Experience using Cliniko software.
- Experience working in the tertiary education environment.
- Fluency in a second language.
Remuneration: $83,788.13 [pro-rata] Part-time, minimum of 3 days per week + 11.5% employer superannuation
