About us headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team at headspace Oran Park work to improve health, social and vocational/educational outcomes for young people.

Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency for headspace Oran Park. We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality services. Services focus on physical health, mental health, youth health, Aboriginal health & chronic disease management. Grant Pacific Health covers a large portion of South Eastern NSW, the A.C.T and Murrumbidgee region. About the position If you are passionate about Youth Mental Health and want to make a positive difference to the lives of young people and their families, we would love for you to join our headspace team as a Youth Access Worker. You will work collaboratively with young people and their support systems (including as appropriate, their family or carers and other service providers) to identify their support needs, goals and to develop collaborative care plans, ensuring best outcomes are delivered in a youth friendly context. While also working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary headspace Oran Park team and external service providers to maximise care outcomes for young people referred to our services.

The position provides a welcoming first point of contact for young people and their family/carers seeking support from headspace Oran Park. The purpose of the position is to undertake assessments and triage appropriate referrals to headspace Oran Park. The incumbent will assess the mental health and psycho-social support needs of young people referred to headspace and in conjunction with the headspace Oran Park team coordinate their transition to appropriate support and treatment streams within and external to headspace in accordance with the clinical need.
The position will also provide early intervention counselling and support services to young people aged 12 to 25 who have, or may be at risk of developing a mental health and/or substance use disorder.

This position is full time opportunity, fixed term until 30 June 2025 with possibility for extension. As a full-time position you have the option to enjoy a rostered day off each month.

We are looking for someone with:

  1. Qualifications in a relevant field or working towards same e.g. youth work, community welfare, social work, psychology, peer work, occupational therapy, counselling or other related qualifications or demonstrated experience in a similar role.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems including an ability to engage and communicate effectively with young people.
  3. Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment and screening of young people and their carers to determine care needs and assist to access necessary services.
  4. Class C unrestricted NSW drivers license and willingness to travel as part of the role
