headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team at headspace Oran Park will work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people.

Grand Pacific Health is a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation. Were here to provide our local communities in NSW and the ACT with equitable, inclusive and integrated health care including physical health and mental health care services. We currently employ 340 people, provide services from 25 locations and are continuing to grow.
About the position If you are passionate about Youth Mental Health and want to make a positive difference to the lives of young people and their families, we would love for you to join our headspace team as a Youth Counsellor. The position provides a welcoming first point of contact for young people and their friends, family and carers seeking support from headspace Oran Park.

The purpose of the position is to undertake assessments and triage appropriate referrals to headspace Oran Park. The incumbent will assess the mental health and psycho-social support needs of young people referred to headspace and in conjunction with the headspace Oran Park team coordinate their transition to appropriate support and treatment streams within and external to headspace in accordance with the clinical need.

The position will also provide early intervention counselling and support services to young people aged 12 to 25 who have or may be at risk of developing a mental health and/or substance use disorder or have economic and social recovery needs.

This is a full-time position, with the option for a Rostered Day Off each month and is fixed-term to 30 June 2025 with extension subject to additional funding.

We are looking for someone with:

  1. Qualifications in Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, Psychology or other relevant field including professional registration as appropriate to qualifications.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of young people with mental health and/or substance use problems including an ability to engage and communicate effectively with young people.
  3. Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment and screening of young people and their carers to determine care needs and assist to access necessary services.
  4. Experience in providing counselling services to young people.
