Salary: $80,000 plus superannuation

Wilga Hotel Narrabri has an exciting opportunity for a Head Chef to join the team. This position is a full-time ongoing position, working 38 hours per week based in Narrabri, NSW.
About Us
Wilga Hotel is a newly renovated establishment that offers a home-style pub environment, complete with a restaurant, sports bar, beer garden, and refurbished ensuite rooms. We take pride in delivering warm and knowledgeable service, creating an incredible ambiance, and providing a magical experience for every guest.
We require a Head Chef to lead our kitchen team, ensuring high standards of food preparation and presentation, and to manage kitchen operations efficiently.
About the Role
The Head Chef will be responsible for the following duties:
- Creating and updating the menu, ensuring a balance of variety, quality, and cost-effectiveness;
- Preparing and cooking food to a high standard using a variety of culinary techniques;
- Supervising and coordinating other junior kitchen staff when preparing, cooking ,garnishing and plating food for service;
- Maintaining health and safety standards at all times by ensuring that the restaurant adheres to various legal frameworks including taking responsibility for food safety kitchen security;
- Collecting and acting on customer feedback to improve the overall running of the restaurant;
- Liaising with the Licensee and Venue Manager to ensure smooth service at all times;
- Stock management including undertaking regular stock checks, placing orders with suppliers’ deliveries and stock handling;
- Meeting kitchen revenue targets agreed with the Licensee by monitoring profitability and revenue performance on a daily basis;
- Recruiting, training and managing kitchen staff;
- Holding weekly meetings with your team & discussing all relevant issues and maintaining staff motivation;
- Maintaining staff discipline, monitoring punctuality, uniform & performance;
- Sourcing the best prices from suppliers whilst ensuring the quality and integrity of our product range; and
- Identifying opportunities and areas to improve and develop the services and facilities the venue has to offer.
Skills & Experience – Who we’re looking for:
For this position, it is expected that you would possess the following qualifications/work experience:
- Minimum Diploma qualification in Hospitality or similar field OR at least 3 years of relevant work experience in lieu of qualifications;
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in hotels, bistros or restaurants as a Head Chef or senior sous chef;
- Ability to lead effective teams and build a positive culture;
- Extensive knowledge of culinary techniques, ingredients, and kitchen equipment;
- Must have eye for detail;
- High standards of cleanliness & hygiene.
