Purpose
The General Manager is responsible for the effective day-to-day operations of North Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club (NCSLSC) while working closely with the Board of Management and key subject matter experts to implement the Club’s strategic direction. This role ensures the Club’s success by coordinating operational activities, managing resources, and fostering a strong volunteer culture.
Key Responsibilities
Club Leadership & Strategy Implementation
Work collaboratively with the BOM and its subject matter experts to deliver on the Club’s strategic goals and operational priorities.
Ensure the Club runs smoothly by overseeing facilities, administration, financial processes, and staff/volunteer coordination.
Provide leadership and operational support to key committees and office bearers, ensuring alignment with the Club’s objectives.
Represent the Club’s values, vision, and decisions to members, the local community, and external stakeholders.
Be a visible and accessible leader during Club activities, fostering a strong and engaged membership base.
Club Operations & Administration
Oversee the administration and governance of the Club, supporting the Chair of Governance and Strategy, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.
Manage the financial and operational aspects of the Club, including budgeting, financial reporting, and resource allocation, supporting the Treasurer.
Management of effective data management (CRM) to support member services, volunteering, surf sports, and patrol activities and reporting.
Oversee the management and maintenance of Club facilities, ensuring they meet operational needs, work health & safety compliance and present well to members and visitors.
Volunteer & Staff Engagement
Support the recruitment, coordination, training, and recognition of volunteers to strengthen the Club’s workforce, alongside the Board of Management.
Deliver member services and engagement initiatives, supporting the Chair of Club Services.
Work with BOM members and committees to maximise volunteer participation in Club activities, events, and lifesaving services.
Provide leadership and guidance to office staff, ensuring a high-performance culture with a customer-focused approach.
Community, Sponsorship , Marketing & Stakeholder Engagement
Work with the BOM to develop and maintain strong relationships with sponsors, government bodies, and community partners. Manage key relationships with major sponsors, alongside the President and BOM.
Ensure the Club is actively promoted through marketing initiatives, social media, and strategic engagement with decision-makers, delivered by the Marketing and Partnerships Officer.
Represent the Club at key meetings, events, and community forums as required.
Selection Criteria
Skills & Experience
Proven leadership experience in a community, sporting, or not-for-profit organisation. Experience managing a multi-discipline team.
Strong ability to manage daily operations while executing strategic initiatives, alongside a board of management.
Experience working with boards, committees, or senior stakeholders to implement strategy.
Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
Strong financial and business acumen, including budgeting and contract management.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage members, volunteers, and external stakeholders.
Understanding and working knowledge of Customer Records Management system for board reporting, operational reports and sponsorship/ stakeholder management.
Experience in volunteer management and fostering a strong club culture.
Exceptional communication skills, responding to emails, constructing board reports and presentations and resolving conflict both written and verbal.

Qualifications
SLSA Bronze Medallion (or willingness to obtain).
Relevant tertiary qualification in Sports Administration, Management, Commerce, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
WA Motor Vehicle License.
A current Working with Children Check.
