About the Role
The Engineering Design and Surveying Team is responsible for providing coordinated expert solutions in the planning, development, and delivery of designs to facilitate the ongoing management of our civil assets that will support and align to council’s vision.
Our Senior Civil Designer will undertake cost effective, fit for purpose design and construction documentation for civil designs as required by the Capital Works Program. This will include the management of various priority capital works projects of differing complexity for a range of internal clients to deliver positive and sustainable outcomes to the Sunshine Coast Council region.
You will work with engineers to report on status of the design projects in Council’s PMO and on procurement of specialised services as well as provide technical advice in complex scenarios. A key accountability of this role is to work as a team with project engineers and assist the Supervisor Design Services in coaching and mentoring designers and cadets.
Key responsibilities include:
Deliver complex civil road and stormwater designs
Prepare construction documentation and cost estimates
Provide specialist technical design advice
Lead project planning and concept development
Manage design consultants and procurement activities
Ensure quality assurance and design compliance
Mentor and support designers and cadets
Contribute to continuous improvement of design systems and practices
Build productive relationships with stakeholders and delivery partners
Support the delivery of Council's Capital Works Program
About you
You are an experienced civil design professional with extensive knowledge of road and stormwater infrastructure design, a collaborative approach, and a passion for delivering innovative and practical engineering solutions.
As a requirement for the role, you will possess:
Associate Degree in Civil Engineering, or Bachelor of Civil Engineering or an equivalent discipline
Substantial experience in civil design, particularly urban and rural road infrastructure
Proven experience delivering complex design and construction documentation
Advanced capability in 12d Model and AutoCAD software
Comprehensive knowledge of relevant design standards, guidelines and legislative requirements, including Austroads, Transport and Main Roads, Australian Standards and QUDM,
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical and innovative solutions
Demonstrated experience managing consultants and coordinating design inputs
Well-developed leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor and support team members
Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and relationship-building skills
The ability to work autonomously while managing competing priorities and project deadlines
A current C Class Driver Licence
