The Team

The Government Relations and Strategic Policy (GRaSP) team manages and progresses the Department of Health's strategic policy and intergovernmental relations agenda by providing high level strategic support to the Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, the Secretary, Health Executive members and Departmental business units. The GRaSP team is responsible for supporting the portfolio Minister, Secretary and Departmental business units regarding the negotiation, management and reporting requirements associated with intergovernmental agreements. GRaSP also plays a lead role and works collaboratively with Departmental business units to manage the development of briefings and support for Ministerial Councils and related bodies.

GRaSP operates as a fast paced, collaborative and supportive team environment that offers exciting learning and development opportunities.

The Role

• Lead and manage strategic planning, complex projects and change processes, including the development, implementation and review of frameworks, policies, systems and processes that support the delivery of strategic corporate strategies.
• Work with the General Manager GRaSP to provide high level strategic advice on government relations and strategic policy issues to the portfolio Ministers, Secretary, DoH and senior staff and external stakeholders as required.
• Manage inter and intra governmental negotiations and consultation in relation to DoH and Whole of Government initiatives.
• Ensure consistent advice in line with Tasmania’s and/or the DoH position and/or agreements signed by the Tasmanian Government, portfolio Ministers and/or Secretary.
• In conjunction with the General Manager GRaSP, ensure that high level strategic advice is provided to portfolio Ministers, the Secretary and relevant Departmental Executive members as required, to support participation in, and the provision of correspondence for, Ministerial Council meetings.

You will need

• Experience working at a senior level in a government relations and policy environment, including demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues and initiatives impacting on the health and human services sector at State and national levels.
• High level experience in developing strategic policy advice including high level conceptual, analytical and creative skills with the demonstrated ability to make sound judgements about strategies, directions and priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a management team to gain the cooperation of others in achieving challenging, difficult and sometimes conflicting objectives.

Details of appointment

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$144,169 to $153,844 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

• Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025

Eligibility

• Appropriate professional and/or tertiary qualifications, for example in law or public policy
• Extensive experience and/or qualifications in intergovernmental relations and negotiations, and the operations of government
