About the role

Council is excited to offer Apprenticeship opportunities for motivated people who have an interest in gaining "hands on" work experience and technical training as a Heavy Plant Mechanic. The objective of our program is to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to complete the Apprenticeship, with a view to establishing a career in the Plant Maintenance industry.

General Information

The Apprenticeship requires the successful applicants to enter a Training Contract for two (4) years commencing in January 2027.

As part of their individual Training Plans Apprentices are required to undertake and complete a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology at either a NSW TAFE Campus or through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Apprenticeships commence as a 1st year Apprentice and are trained under the instruction of a suitably qualified supervisor. You may be required to rotate between job locations to nurture on-the-job experience for the duration of the Apprenticeship. Council offers an excellent development program with exposure to many facets of the job throughout the course.

Essential Criteria

  1. Current Class C or Provisional P1 or P2 driver's licence or willingness to obtain at Legal age to acquire license
  2. Demonstrated interest and/or experience in the chosen trade or area
  3. Be an Australian Citizen or granted permanent residency status
  4. Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment

Applicants successful at progressing to interview will then be invited to attend a group and panel interview which will be conducted during a weekday. Applicants shortlisted for interview will be advised via phone and e-mail.

Offer Details

The commencing salary range for this position is between $501.30 to $860.50 per week ($26,137.78 to $44,866.47 per year) dependent on age and school qualifications plus 12% superannuation

  • We have two temporary full-time roles available
  • This role will have access to a 9-day fortnight
  • These roles are located at Council's Charmhaven Depot or Erina Depot
