The Aboriginal Intensive Family Case Manager is a role employed by Aboriginal Controlled Organisation Wadjak Northside Aboriginal Community Group and subcontracted to the Mercycare Family Support Network Joondalup and Mirrabooka.
The role prioritises working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families who encounter the Family Support Network service through its Intensive Case Management or Assessment Coordination streams.
The primary aim of the role is the provision of outreach community-based supports that prevent or divert Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families from encountering the Child Protection system (or prevention of further contact) through the provision of intensive in-home case management support services that focus on practical care needs, capacity building, risk reduction, cultural support and enhancing family functioning.
Key Outcomes
Engage with families to identify risks and create culturally appropriate safety plans.
Build culturally appropriate relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
Provide specialist parental advice and direct in-home support and education on parenting routines.
Work with families to identify and complete case plan goals that are culturally secure.
Assist families to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to access resources and networks to enhance family functioning.
Support families identified by the Family Support Network Intensive Case Management and Assessment and Coordination stream.
Be available to attend after hour meetings where required and as is reasonable.
Participate in personal and professional development programs and training to maintain current best practice knowledge.
Develop and continuously improve culturally secure intervention models in the Family Support Network program using research and evidence-based practice.
Ensures that engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children is culturally appropriate and responsive.
Stakeholder Engagement
Actively engage with families and children from various cultural backgrounds.
Work with other organisations to provide linkage to other professional services.
Develop and maintain networks with government and non- government organisations.
Promote the practice that Aboriginal workers, carers and organisations should play a significant role in the provision of support services to Aboriginal families.
Administration
Complete case management administrative responsibilities of the role, including safety plans, assessments, case plans, referrals, data and progress reports to a high standard.
Participate in team meetings, professional meetings, information sessions as required.
Undertake additional duties as required by Wadjak Northside and the Family Support Network Coordinator.
Safeguarding Children
Provide a welcoming and safe environment for children and young people.
Adhere to MercyCare’s Safeguarding Children and Young People Procedure in relation to the appropriate treatment of children.
Promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people who engage with MercyCare services. · Ensure that interactions with children and young people are positive and safe.
Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your charge.
Act as a positive role model for children and young people.
Report any suspicions, concerns, allegations, or disclosures of alleged abuse to management in a timely manner.
Raise any concerns about abuse or neglect of children or young people with the Safeguarding and Inclusion Officer where needed.
Report any relevant police matters that arise during your period of employment including criminal charges or convictions.
Occupational Safety and Health
Ensure safe working environments are provided for employees, volunteers, contractors, and visitors.
Model compliance with relevant legislation, professional standards, policies, procedures and instructions.
Ensure that all risk, hazards, and incidents are investigated, and adequate controls applied.
Consult with employees and their representatives on safety and health matters.
Formal Qualifications
Relevant experience in working within the Human Services field.
Tertiary Degree desirable but not essential.
Skills, knowledge and experience (including technical skills)
This program will priorities working on the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families and as such section 50 (d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA) will apply to this position.
This position is 22.8 hrs per week, level 3 SCHADS award
