Broome Youth and Families Hub is seeking a Family Services Practitioner to join our hard-working team to deliver trauma-informed, culturally safe support to children, parents, and families. In this role, you will walk alongside families to build resilience, and foster strong connections with their children, kin, and the wider community.

The successful candidate will bring creativity and empathy to their practice through deep listening and the knowledge that families are the experts in their own lives. The right candidate will demonstrate best-practice, trauma-informed, and culturally safe approach to all engagements and will have the skills to navigate complex cases with a multitude of focus areas.

Key Duties (include, but are not limited to):

· Conduct intake and eligibility screening for new referrals.
· Develop case management plans with new clients and families.
· Deliver holistic, strength-based, and trauma-informed support through engagement and case management.
· Coordinate interagency meetings and supports, in line with the case management plan and family requirements.
· Support parents with practical skills (e.g., routines, behaviour management, positive communication).
· Lead regular case review meetings with parents/carers, families and multidisciplinary professionals.
· Assist families with referrals, applications, and navigating service systems (e.g., Centrelink, housing, legal aid).
· During advocacy: ensure families’ voices are heard and represented in decision-making processes.
· Support families in meetings with schools, health services, child protection, housing, and other agencies.
· Provide information to families to know and understand their rights and available supports.
· Escalate systemic issues or service gaps identified through casework to management for advocacy at a higher level.
· Provide reports, letters of support, or documentation to external stakeholders to build awareness and gain impact.
· Support families to build confidence in self-advocacy by walking alongside them as they develop confidence in these spaces.
· Lead and host interagency meetings.
· Promote and build strong stakeholder relationships, attend, support and promote family and parenting related community initiatives, events and/or meetings as they arise.
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in CSNet of client interactions in line with organisational and legislative requirements.
· Maintain up to date case notes following all interactions with clients and families.
· Uphold child-safe practices and mandatory reporting obligations in all aspects of service delivery.

Essential Criteria:

Minimum 5 years’ experience providing case management, or therapeutic support with young people and families.

Demonstrated ability to deliver trauma-informed, culturally safe, and strengths-based practice when working with children, parents, and families.

Proven experience working with Aboriginal families, young people, and communities, with a strong understanding of cultural protocols and community dynamics in the Broome region.

In-depth knowledge of issues impacting Aboriginal parents, carers, children, and young people, including intergenerational trauma, child protection, and family wellbeing.

Thorough understanding of statutory requirements, reporting obligations, and record-keeping standards relevant to child and family services.

Highly developed communication skills: active listening, clear written documentation, and confident verbal engagement with families, stakeholders, and colleagues.

Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and maintain accurate records.

Capacity to work both autonomously and collaboratively, demonstrating initiative and professional integrity.

Commitment to reflective practice, professional development, and mentoring peers to build sector capacity.

Desirable Criteria:

· Completed or actively working towards a tertiary qualification in Social Work (AASW eligible), Psychology, Counselling, or a related human services field.

Membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or equivalent professional body.

Demonstrated ability to lead or contribute to program evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives.

Experience facilitating group programs, parenting workshops, or community education sessions.

Established relationships with local services, networks, and community leaders in Broome or the Kimberley region.

Knowledge of relevant legislation, policy, and frameworks (e.g., child protection, out-of-home care, family law, domestic and family violence).

Experience in support families navigating the out-of-home care space.

Understanding and experience providing advocacy alongside families.

Flexibility and creativity in engaging hard-to-reach families and responding to complex case needs.
