Urban College is a Specialist School organisation offering the VCE – Vocational Major (VCE-VM), and a modified Year 10 program to 14-21 year olds. The Head of Wellbeing at Urban College plays a pivotal leadership role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that prioritises the social, emotional, and mental health of all students.

Based at our Croydon Campus, this position will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of wellbeing programs that align with Urban College’s vision of empowering young people to achieve both personal and academic success.

You will work closely with school leadership, teachers, and support staff to ensure that every student receives the care, guidance, and support needed to re-engage in education and thrive beyond it.

This position may be full-time or part-time, depending on the successful candidate’s experience and availability.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Lead the strategic direction of wellbeing across the Croydon Campus, ensuring a proactive and holistic approach to student care.

Oversee and coordinate individual wellbeing plans, crisis responses, and referral pathways for students with complex needs.

Support and mentor staff to build capacity in trauma-informed practice, mental health literacy, and positive behaviour support.

Work collaboratively with teachers, education support staff, and external professionals to provide wraparound support for students.

Drive initiatives that strengthen student voice, belonging, and resilience within the college community.

Contribute to leadership discussions and decision-making regarding student engagement, attendance, and wellbeing strategies.

Maintain accurate wellbeing records and ensure compliance with child safety, confidentiality, and duty of care obligations.

Abou You:

You are a compassionate, experienced professional with a deep understanding of student wellbeing and youth mental health.

You have a strong background in counselling, social work, psychology, youth work, or education (diploma level qualifications or above in these areas are highly regarded).

You demonstrate leadership skills with the ability to mentor and support others in building inclusive and trauma-informed practices.

You thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment and are passionate about empowering young people to re-engage with learning and life.

Experience in specialist, alternative, or flexible education settings will be viewed favourably
