Education Support Youth Worker – PIVOT (Ipswich)

Support young people to reconnect with learning, confidence and community.

ICYS is seeking Education Support Youth Workers to join PIVOT — a new, specialised learning and engagement program for young people aged 10–16 who have disengaged from mainstream schooling and may be connected with the youth justice system.

This is an exciting opportunity to support young people through trauma-informed, culturally responsive and relationship-based learning, helping them build skills, routine, confidence and pathways back to school, training or employment.

About ICYS

Since 1983, ICYS Ipswich Community Youth Service has supported children, young people and families across the Ipswich region. We deliver youth support, education engagement, specialist youth justice programs, homelessness assistance & accommodation, vocational support and recreation programs.

PIVOT continues this legacy by offering flexible, culturally safe pathways to learning designed specifically for young people who need a fresh start and a fair chance.

About the role

The Education Support Youth Worker provides day-to-day support to young people participating in the program, working under the guidance of the Lead Educator and alongside the Program Coordinator, Cultural Connector and Case Manager.

You will build strong, supportive relationships with young people and support them to engage in literacy, numeracy, cultural, life-skills and recreational activities — in a safe, structured, welcoming and youth-centred environment.

What you’ll do

Support 1:1 and small-group learning sessions, particularly literacy and numeracy

Encourage consistent attendance, safe behaviour, routine and positive learning habits

Build rapport and trust through trauma-informed, strengths-based practice

Assist with planning and facilitating creative, cultural, life-skills and recreational activities

Support young people to participate in excursions and off-site learning (including some school-holiday periods)

Provide observations to support case planning and educational transition goals

Work alongside the Cultural Connector to ensure programs promote cultural safety and belonging

Assist with set-up and pack-down of learning spaces and program activities

Record attendance and brief notes in line with ICYS procedures

Participate in reflective practice, supervision and team meetings

What we’re looking for

Qualification in Youth Work, Education Support, Community Services or related field (or progress toward)

Experience supporting young people with complex needs and challenging behaviours

Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Calm, patient and adaptive approach

Highly regarded:

Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people

Experience in alternative education or youth justice contexts

Mandatory requirements

Current Blue Card (or ability to obtain)

National Criminal History Check (≤6 months)

Current First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain)

Current Driver's Licence

Employment Details

Hours: 75 hours per fortnight (part-time considered)

Term: To 30 June 2028, subject to funding continuation

Location: ICYS Ipswich Youth Hub / ICYS Head Office (with outreach as required)

Award & Benefits: SCHCDS Level 3 + leave loading, superannuation & salary packaging up to $15,900 tax-free

Why join us?

This is more than a job — it’s a chance to help young people rebuild confidence, reconnect with community and imagine new possibilities.

You’ll be part of a supportive, passionate and purpose-driven team creating a new program from the ground up.
