Placement Services Unit - Placement Coordinator
Reports To: Head of School, Dean and Director of Studies
Start Date: January 2026
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership & Coordination
· Develop and implement policies and procedures for student placements.
· Ensure alignment with accreditation standards for each discipline.
· Oversee the PSU’s operations and resource allocation.
2. Partnership & Stakeholder Management
· Establish and maintain relationships with host organizations (e.g., childcare centers, hospitals, social service agencies).
· Negotiate placement agreements and ensure compliance with institutional and industry requirements.
· Resolve issues between students, host organizations, and academic supervisors.
3. Student Placement Administration
· Coordinate the placement matching process in consultation with Heads of School.
· Organize pre-placement briefings and student preparation workshops.
· Monitor student attendance, performance, and compliance during placements.
· Manage risk assessments and legal documentation (e.g., contracts, insurance, and police checks).
4. Collaboration with Academic Staff
· Work with Heads of School to ensure discipline-specific requirements are met.
· Facilitate communication between field supervisors and academic assessors.
· Support Heads of School in evaluating placement outcomes.
5. Compliance & Reporting
· Maintain accurate records of placements, agreements, and student progress.
· Prepare reports for the Dean and Director of Studies on placement outcomes.
· Ensure adherence to institutional policies and external regulatory standards.
Key Relationships:
A. Dean & Director of Studies – Direct reporting line for strategic oversight.
B. Heads of School - The PSU Coordinator will maintain a collaborative partnership with the Heads of School for each course requiring placement. Heads of School as Discipline Supervisors retain ultimate responsibility for setting learning outcomes, assessment criteria and final student grades. They provide academic oversight for placements, supporting the identification of suitable learning opportunities, and ensuring alignment with learning outcomes. The Coordinator provides administrative support and ensures that sites and supervisors understand these academic requirements.
The Coordinator will:
Meet regularly with each Head of School to discuss placement needs, student readiness, and provider feedback.
Coordinate assessment inputs from placement supervisors and academic teams.
Collaborate on policy development and risk management related to field education.
C. Students – Providing guidance and support throughout the placement process.
D. Industry Partners – Maintaining professional relationships to secure placements.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
· A relevant postgraduate degree in education, social work, health sciences, or administration.
· Experience in placement coordination, higher education, or industry partnerships.
· Strong organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
· Knowledge of accreditation requirements for professional courses.
· Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
