The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.
Your Impact
As a valued and vital member of the Aboriginal Legal Services, you’ll play a key role in driving team growth, program development, and meaningful community impact as a Senior Manager leading and supporting ALS Field Officers across NSW & ACT, by delivering culturally grounded services that strengthen and empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Each day, you will:
- Lead and strengthen the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Field Officer Network across NSW & ACT, ensuring culturally grounded, high-quality services that are community-led.
- Manage, support, and develop a dispersed team, fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performing environment.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with communities, Elders, internal teams, and external stakeholders to drive impact.
- Oversee program performance, reporting, and evaluation to meet objectives, KPIs, and inform service improvements.
- Embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led practice, trauma-informed approaches, and cultural protocols across all services.
- Uphold ALS values, governance, and compliance while contributing to strategic growth and community strengthening initiatives.
Your Story & Strengths
You are a skilled and motivated leader who identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, with a deep understanding of the cultural, social, and historical factors shaping the lives of your mob. You combine strategic expertise with cultural insight to lead, support, and grow a team delivering frontline services. Key strengths include:
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander with strong cultural knowledge and/or lived experience
- Proven leadership in managing and developing high-performing teams, including mentoring in culturally safe practice.
- Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, trauma-informed approaches, and culturally responsive service delivery.
- Highly skilled in analysis, decision-making, reporting, and translating data into culturally relevant insights.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with flexibility to lead across evolving service models in NSW and ACT.
- Desirable: Established community networks and experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs)

About Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT
The ALS is a proud Aboriginal community organisation.
We opened our doors in 1970 in Redfern as the first Aboriginal Legal Service in Australia – that makes us over 40 years old!
The ALS does legal work in Criminal law, children’s Care and Protection law and Family law.
We assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women and children through representation in court, advice and information, and referral to further support services.
