The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing Work Health and Safety (WHS) programs to ensure a safe, compliant, and healthy work environment across Parratech.
Reporting to the Head of Safety, the Safety Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify risks, enforce WHS standards, and foster a proactive safety culture. This role requires expertise in WHS legislation, risk management, and employee training to minimise workplace hazards and ensure compliance with national and state/territory regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. WHS Program Development & Implementation:
· Assist in the implementation of comprehensive WHS policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with work health and safety legislation.
· Regularly review and update WHS protocols to reflect changes in legislation, codes of practice, or operational requirements.
2. Risk Assessment & Hazard Mitigation:
· Conduct workplace risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards.
· Develop and implement risk control measures and safe work method statements (SWMS) to mitigate identified risks.
· Analyse safety data and incident trends to recommend proactive strategies for hazard prevention.
3. Incident Management & Investigation:
· Lead investigations into workplace incidents, injuries, or near-misses to determine root causes, using methodologies such as ICAM (Incident Cause Analysis Method).
· Prepare detailed incident reports and submit notifiable incidents to SafeWork Australia or relevant state/territory regulators as required.
· Manage workers’ compensation claims and comply with regulatory reporting obligations.
4. Regulatory Compliance:
· Ensure compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act & WHS Regulations, and applicable codes of practice, as well as state/territory-specific requirements.
· Act as the primary liaison for WHS regulatory inspections, audits, and inquiries, coordinating responses and corrective actions.
5. Safety Culture Promotion:
· Foster a proactive WHS culture through safety committees, toolbox talks, and employee engagement initiatives.
· Partner with department leaders to integrate WHS practices into daily operations and promote accountability.
6. Reporting & Communication:
· Provide regular reports to the Head of Safety on WHS performance metrics, program effectiveness, and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Communicate WHS policies, updates, and expectations clearly to all employees and stakeholders.
7. Emergency Preparedness:
· Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid protocols, and coordination with external emergency services.
· Conduct regular emergency drills and ensure compliance with AS 3745-2010.
Key Selection Criteria:
Qualifications:
· Minimum Diploma in Work Health Safety.
· 5+ years of experience in WHS management, preferably in construction and manufacturing.
· In-depth knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, SafeWork Australia guidelines, and AS/NZS ISO 45001 standards.
· Proficiency in WHS management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Skills:
· Experience with incident investigation methodologies such as ICAM or TapRooT.
· Proven ability to lead and influence a positive safety culture.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with employees, management, and regulators.
· Strong analytical skills to assess risks and develop effective control measures
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to conduct on-site inspections, which may involve walking, climbing, or working in various environmental conditions.
· Occasional travel within NSW may be required to support multiple locations.
