We’re looking for a talented Backend Developer to join our Australian team and help us scale our backend infrastructure, build high-performance APIs, and deliver secure, reliable integrations with practice management systems.

This role is based for candidates based anywhere in Australia.

Role Overview
As a Node.js Backend Developer at WaitOnce, you’ll design and implement backend services that power our mobile and web applications. You’ll work closely with mobile developers, product managers, and integration specialists to create scalable, secure, and efficient backend systems that serve thousands of users every day.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop and maintain high-performance APIs using Node.js and NestJS.
· Design and optimize data models in PostgreSQL to support large-scale data operations.
· Build and maintain integrations with third-party Practice Management Systems (PMS).
· Collaborate with mobile developers to define clear API contracts and ensure efficient data flow.
· Implement secure authentication, authorization, and role-based access controls.
· Write clean, well-documented, and testable code following modern development best practices.
· Participate in code reviews, contribute to architectural decisions, and suggest improvements.
· Monitor performance, handle scalability challenges, and ensure system reliability.

Requirements
· 3–4 years of hands-on backend development experience with Node.js and NestJS.
· Solid understanding of PostgreSQL and relational database design.
· Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs for mobile and web applications.
· Strong knowledge of TypeScript, Git, and API security standards.
· Experience integrating with third-party APIs or healthcare/PMS platforms.
· Understanding of asynchronous programming, microservices, and event-driven design.
· Ability to write efficient queries and optimize API performance.
· Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have
· Experience with Docker, AWS, or CI/CD pipelines.
· Previous experience working in SaaS startups or agile environments.
