About the Opportunity
Permanent ongoing role
Full-time work week (38 hours)
Based in Parramatta, NSW
The Tenancy Officer will be a strong communicator with a commitment to delivering excellent customer and culturally safe services to Aboriginal people. You have demonstrated experience in all aspects of social housing tenancy management. You understand the challenges faced by people needing housing assistance and have a good knowledge of local supports – and referral pathways - available for those who are unable to be serviced by your new employer.
You will thrive in a start-up environment with a significant workload, be strongly committed to working as a member of a team while being self-motivated and able to work independently. Applying your excellent organisational skills is a strong feature of your approach to work. You easily adapt to new contexts and have a strong commitment to social justice principles. This is a fulltime permanent position that is based in our Parramatta office.
Key areas of responsibility include:
Managing inquiries
Conducting fair and transparent property allocations against published eligibility criteria
Undertaking rent calculations, rent and water collection, and arrears recovery in accordance with policies, procedures and targets
Managing tenancies including conducting property inspections, producing condition reports, tenancy sing ups and entry procedures, lease and rent reviews etc
Reporting maintenance requests and requirements
Managing and reporting complaints and compliance issues
Complying with quality and accountability requirements
Providing advice and referring tenants and those ineligible for your employer’s services to other supports
Representing your employer in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal, where required.
Travel within the service delivery area is essential to facilitate tenancy management activities, and engagement with partner organisations including local support services.
About you
You will meet the following Essential Criteria
Aboriginality – your employer considers Aboriginality a genuine occupational qualification for the role in accordance with the Anti-Discrimination Act (s.14(d)).
Empathy towards the challenges faced by people needing housing assistance. Knowledge and understanding of the cultural practices, values and issues that currently affect Aboriginal peoples in NSW.
Experience in social housing tenancy management with sound understanding of the NSW Residential Tenancies Act, 2010.
Well-developed, culturally competent communication, relationship management and interpersonal skills including a demonstrated ability to influence, persuade and negotiate.
Capability and experience using Microsoft Office applications and a property management data system.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and plan personal workloads effectively.
Relevant post-school qualifications or equivalent experience.
You will also need
A valid National Police Check (less than six (6) months old)
Satisfactory National Police and Working with Children Checks
A current driver’s licence valid in the state of NSW
Willingness to be office-based up to five (5) days per week
