YOUR NEW ROLE

Help protect one of Australia’s most treasured icons. We’re seeking proactive Security Officers to ensure all internal and external stakeholders meet Sydney Opera House security obligations. In this vital role, you’ll report and manage security related incidents in line with Emergency Planning and Response Group procedures, maintaining the integrity of the SOH Security Plan.

Your work will directly contribute to safeguarding the Opera House, its people, visitors, and cultural heritage.

ARE YOU THE ONE?

The ideal candidates will have:

  • Current Class 1A Security Licence, a Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate and Provide First Aid Certificate.
  • Security industry or related experience, including operational security duties, crowd control, search procedures and the ability to provide and maintain excellent customer service.
  • Thorough and comprehensive contemporary operational security or related experience in a high profile and high public visitation site characterised by high levels of constantly changing activity and 24 hour seven days per week coverage.
  • Experience in delivering security or related services within heightened level of threat and experience of a multitude of security incident types and responses and in liaising with outside security agencies and emergency services, including crowd management experience.
  • Ability to meet physical fitness standards in accordance with SOH EPRG policy.
  • Strong verbal communication, interpersonal, negotiation, persuasive, facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in incident reporting and sound written communication skills.
  • Working With Children Check (WWCC), understanding of policies and procedures relevant to the workplace and participate in relevant security training.

CONTRACT AND ROSTERING

The Security Team work 12 hour shifts from 06:00 to 18:00 or 18:00 to 06:00 7 days per week including public holidays.

The role(s) on offer are either Full Time (38 hours per week) or Casual.

There may be an opportunity to undertake more hours should additional shifts arise above your contracted hours.

Initial commencement dates

If you are successful with your application your paid employment (including training) will commence on Monday 8 December 2025. You must be available to work the following dates (09:00 to 17:00). These dates and times are mandatory:

Buddy Shifts

Following your initial training period, you will be required to complete six 12 hour shifts over a 10 day period from Monday 15 December - Wednesday 24 December 2025. These shifts will follow the usual times of 06:00 to 18:00 or 18:00 to 06:00.

Availability to work

You must be available to work New Years Eve and have good availability over January 2026.
