Job Description

Hi there, thanks for stopping by. We're glad to have gotten your attention, but we'll be thrilled when you apply. We're on the hunt for a new member of our team. We're eager to find someone who is passionate about what they do, and is excited for a new journey with our fantastic firm.

About Carbon.
We’re not your average professional services firm. Carbon launched in 2014 with the goal to shake up the industry and change the level of service that small and medium business owners received. We combine all the core business services in the one place (from accounting to bookkeeping to finance to insurance and everything in between), bringing together some of the best experts in the industry so our clients can focus on doing more of what they love.

What it means to be a Carbonite.
Our Carbonites are our best asset, and we’ve grown from a small team of 13 people in a single office in Perth to over 300 Carbonites nationwide, with offices in multiple states. A key element in our plan of world domination is having the best people possible to help us along the way. This is where you come in.

As our next Carbonite, you’ll be joining a team at multiple levels. You’ll be part of a team in your office, working with other talented people such as yourself. You’ll also be joining our national ranks, meaning you can easily tap into a knowledge base for a tricky question or to bounce ideas off of for the next team activity.

About the role.
Empowering our Carbonites is a big part of our mission and vision, so we focus on helping our Carbonites learn and grow, developing their careers in the direction that they want to go in.

Carbon provides exceptional service to our clients, and our Senior Accountants are at the forefront of this. You’ll be communicating with clients daily, as well as applying your skills and experience to solve their problems and elevate their business.

Varied accounting experience is vital (particularly experience in public practice in Australia), as are strong communication and time management skills. In a single day you’ll be juggling multiple balls, but you will always have the support of our high performing team behind you.

Already a Senior Accountant & want that next step? We are also open to this role being a Tax Manager and, for the right person, there is future potential to become a Partner at our Gympie office.

Job Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in accounting and either completed or working towards your CA or CPA.
  • Solid experience in an Australian accounting firm, preparing financial statements and tax returns.
  • Confidence working directly with clients and enjoys building relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero/XPM and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with SMSF highly valued.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to explain complex things simply, whether in writing or over the phone.
  • A team mindset and experience collaborating with both local and offshore teams.
  • Above all, an energetic, positive outlook and a genuine passion for what you do.

You’ll be perfect for the role if:

  • You love a bit of team banter and activities
  • You want to be part of the coolest firm in Australia
  • You’re keen to join a company that encourage you to define your own career path

Job Responsibilities

  • Client management.
  • Manage 1-2 team members, reviewing juniors work.
  • Preparing financial statements and tax returns for individuals, and small to medium businesses.
  • Creating and advising on various trading structures.
  • Preparing Business Activity Statements (BAS).
  • Providing tax planning advice.
  • Liaising with the ATO.
  • Business budgeting and cash flow management.
  • Business benchmarking.
  • Additional ad hoc tasks.

Job Benefits

We aspire to create a culture in every office where our people are motivated and supported to achieve their goals. With that in mind, we know what is important to each person will vary, so here are a few things we offer:

  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Learning and development opportunities driven by you: Want to focus your skills in a certain area, or explore something new with training? Great, let’s do it. We have internal and external training options.
  • Social activities to suit different people: Regular team events, office events, community giveback opportunities, etc. etc.
  • And, of course, we also offer some great benefits like discounts, cashbacks, rewards, and initiatives to support wellness.

Ready to apply?
Great, we'd love to hear from you. Keep in mind that the desired skills and experience we listed above are all important components to this role, but that doesn't mean you need to tick every box to apply! We're dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and exciting team, so even if your past experience doesn't perfectly align with everything listed but you're passionate about this role and joining our firm, apply anyways.

  • Show us what you’ve got (aka send through your resume)
  • Tell us why we'd be a great fit:
  1. Write a cover letter helping us to get to know you - bonus points if you make it stand out. Even better, mix it up and do something more creative than the traditional cover letter! (Not required, just an idea).
  2. Give us an insight into who you are – help us understand what motivates you, what you’re passionate about.

At Carbon, we know we’re at our best when we look out for one another; prioritise respect, fairness, development and wellbeing; foster an inclusive culture and embrace diversity in all forms. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment regardless of their background, experience, identity, ability or thinking style, and if you need assistance or an accommodation during the application process for accessibility reasons this is available upon request.
