We are looking for a warm, dedicated Maternal & Child Health Nurse to join our small rural community in the Northern Grampians. Position objectives

This position is responsible for providing a family focused, primary health care service to maximise the health and wellbeing of children aged 0-6 years living in the Northern Grampians Shire in line with Council’s Municipal Early Years Plan.

Key responsibility areas

Deliver universal key ages and stages services and enhanced maternal and child health services to promote and monitor health, growth, physical, emotional, social and cognitive development of children aged 0-6 years in accordance with the Maternal and Child Health Service Program Standards of Practice.

Contribute to increasing Northern Grampian Shire Council’s immunisation rate for preventable infectious diseases by providing families with information on council's immunisation services on a regular basis and advise relevant staff of families requiring opportunistic immunisations where appropriate.

Assess the safety and wellbeing of children and families with identified risk factors by providing support, improving family functioning, addressing presenting issues and act as an advocate for families and children when appropriate.

Provide information and parenting support utilising relevant resources for families and facilitate access to these resources including culturally sensitive interventions for families with complex needs

Participate in research programs relevant to clinical and health promotion practices to contribute to a growing body of evidence-based nursing.

Perform, as directed, other duties that are within the limits of the incumbents’ skill, competence and training.

Qualifications and experience

  • Qualification as Division One Registered Nurse suitable for employment in Victoria
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications in Maternal and Child Health and Midwifery
  • Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Experience in the maternal and child health computer databases desirable

Selection criteria

  1. Relevant qualifications, registrations, and accreditations to perform the role.
  2. Knowledge of relevant issues and legislation pertinent to Maternal and Child Health clinical practice.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of specialist referral and support services for families and children and experience with family centred practice.
  4. Experienced communicator with ability to positively engage with a diverse range of clients and successfully provide information and services.

  2. A current Working with Children Check (or must be obtained before commencing employment)
