Position objectives
The Team Leader is a Clinical Lead position responsible for the day-to-day operation of Maternal & Child Health (MCH) and Immunisation Services. The position reports to the Head of Early Years and assists with the planning, development and strengthening of Council's Maternal & Child Health (MCH)/Enhanced Maternal & Child Health (ECMH) and immunisation services, supporting the delivery of high quality, best practice services for the community.
Key responsibility areas
- Assist with the development and review of MCH and Immunisation services policies, procedures and operational guidelines to support compliance with relevant legislative, regulatory and quality assurance frameworks, and provision of safe and quality services to the community
- Ensure MCH and immunisation services are adequately equipped and resourced, with suitably qualified and experienced staff and assist in the preparation of annual operations budget, with resourcing recommendations
- Provide support and oversight of the MCH and immunisations nurses’ practice, including their compliance with approved clinical processes, policies and procedures which are associated with the provision of services to families and their children
- In conjunction with the Head of Early Years, engage with MCH and Immunisation nurses in their annual appraisals and ensure appropriate continuing professional development opportunities are available to staff to assist them to maintain their knowledge and skills and meet the obligations of Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration requirements
- Collate and review statistical data to inform service goals and understand the changing needs of MCH and immunisation clients
- Identify opportunities and strategies to actively promote the services to the community
- Provide timely and accurate internal and external reports for MCH and immunisation services to Council, State and Commonwealth Governments, as required
- Provide support and organise clinical supervision for MCH and immunisation students
- Perform, as directed, other duties that are within the limits of the incumbents' skill, competence and qualifications

Qualifications and experience
- Current registration as a general nurse and midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia in partnership with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Relevant tertiary Maternal & Child Health qualifications
- Satisfactory completion of nurse immunisation certification and is approved under regulation 8(1) and regulation 161 of the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Regulations 2017.
- Maintains contemporary knowledge of developments in MCH through attendance at Regional and Sate Conferences and other professional development, seminars and conferences focusing on the early years and immunisation.
- Considerable experience in MCH/EMCH and immunisation service delivery
- Experience in the leadership and supervision of MCH teams
- Knowledge of relevant data and information systems and computer skills to effectively operate and maintain same
Selection criteria
- Relevant qualifications and experience as specified above is required
- High standard of clinical expertise and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of practice directions at a local, state and federal level
- Considerable experience in providing support and oversight of Maternal and Child Health and immunisation nurses' practice, including compliance with approved clinical processes, policies and procedures
- Demonstrated ability and experience in planning, implementing and evaluating maternal child health programs with advanced knowledge and skills in immunisation and vaccination provision
- Ability to communicate effectively, particularly with the provision of written reports on clinical performance, policy recommendations and procedure development
