St Laurence's College is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice Tradition with an enrolment of approximately 2000 boys from Years 5-12.
Applications are invited for a permanent, term-time Laboratory Technician to join our Science Department, commencing as soon as possible or a date as negotiated with the successful candidate. Hours of work are Monday to Friday 7.30-3.30pm (38 hours per week).
The Laboratory Technician works in collaboration with Science teaching staff in providing effective learning outcomes for students of Science. They are responsible for the preparation, assistance and advice for all Science related work within the College. Performing duties as directed by the Head of Faculty – Science, the Laboratory Technician communicates with staff and students to organise practical activities, maintain equipment and offer advice concerning experiments. The Laboratory Technician is required to maintain a safe working environment for students and staff.
Applicants should meet the criteria below:
At least 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role
Hold Tertiary qualifications at Certificate level or equivalent qualifications relevant to the position may be required or such knowledge, qualifications and experience that are deemed by the employer as necessary to successfully carry out the duties of the position
Experience working in a Secondary School setting (Years 7-12), would be looked at favourably
Demonstrated knowledge and experience utilising MSDS, RiskAssess and Chemwatch
Demonstrated knowledge of experimental procedures, practices and preparation techniques
Knowledge of the safe treatment and disposal of used materials including hazardous substances and responding to actual or potential hazards
A general knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety
Demonstrated strong computer skills in all Microsoft applications
Hold a current Blue Card; or be eligible to apply for a Suitability Card for working with children.
