Community Care TASMANIA began life in 1990 as the provider of choice for the local migrant communities. We are a leading not for profit Age Care and Disability provider dedicated to delivering compassionate care and support to Tasmanians; enabling them to thrive at home with dignity and respect.
35 years on we are now preparing to open our Respite & Training Centre and Café. We are looking for an experienced and qualified Junior Chef to join our Launceston based team in a casual position (with the potential to become permanent).
About the Role
Our Junior Chef will work with the Senior Chef to deliver high quality food and catering services which meet the needs of the aged care and disability guests in the respite centre and visitors to the training centre and café. You will ensure that delicious, well-balanced and nutritional meals are prepared and presented and that the kitchen meets required hygiene and compliance standards.
The role will include:
- Prepare ingredients for daily service for both the café, catering and aged care menus.
- Adhere to all food safety (HACCP) and WHS standards.
- Cook dishes to order and prepare meal components following the standardised recipes and participant support plans.
- Accurately follow specific instructions for preparing texture-modified and therapeutic meals for participants.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in your designated work area, including equipment and utensils.
- Assist with stock rotation, storage, hazards report, portion control and minimising food waste.
- Complete daily food safety logs and kitchen checklists as required
- Manage hazards & incident reporting in accordance with CCT WH&S Policy.
You will bring:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a qualified chef in a commercial kitchen (café, restaurant, residential aged care, or hospital catering is desirable).
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions maintaining excellent attention to detail.
- A strong understanding of food safety, HACCP principles, aged care nutrition, including malnutrition prevention, hydration strategies, and dietary restrictions, texture-modified food and allergen management is desirable.
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills with a naturally friendly and positive attitude.
- A current Food Handling Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Satisfactory National Police check.
- Current Tasmania Driver’s License.
- Working with Vulnerable People Card (NDIS Screening to be obtained).
- NDIS Workers Orientation Module certificate.
