The Role

We are currently seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join our Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). We have positions available for a Fixed term (1 year) vacancy and casual opening. As a PACU Nurse, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based care to patients emerging from anaesthesia following surgical or procedural interventions. You will monitor and assess patients' recovery, manage airways, pain, and vital signs, respond to clinical changes with confidence and sound judgement, and ensure safe transfer to the ward or discharge area.

Working collaboratively with anaesthetists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams, you will play a vital role in maintaining patient safety and comfort throughout the post-operative recovery phase. Compassion, clinical expertise, and attention to detail are essential to ensuring optimal patient outcomes in this dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key accountabilities of this role include:

  • Delivering high-quality nursing care in accordance with clinical guidelines and patient recovery plans, ensuring patient safety and comfort post-anaesthesia
  • Monitoring and managing patients' airways, vital signs, pain, and consciousness levels, escalating concerns as appropriate
  • Administering medications and treatments accurately and safely
  • Ensuring all documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with MQ Health policy and procedures
  • Participating in the identification, design, and implementation of quality improvement activities, including policy review and development
  • Demonstrating a collaborative and positive approach within the multidisciplinary team to deliver excellence in patient-centred care

To Apply

To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate the below requirements in your resume:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a PACU, Recovery, or Perioperative environment (highly desirable)
  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Proven ability to assess, prioritise, and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions in a critical care setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide reassurance and support to patients and families during recovery
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Flexible availability (Monday-Friday preferred, with possible rotating shifts or weekends as required)
  • Well-developed computer skills including the use of electronic medical records systems, MS Word, Excel and web-based research

Role Specific Conditions

  • Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) for NSW (please provide your WWCC number in your application)
  • Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • MQ Health immunisation screening compliance
  • This position requires a Criminal History Check
