About the Program
The SHAK offers a safe and inclusive space for young people aged 10-17 years to connect, have a hot meal and take part in a variety of activities. It is open after-school and on Saturdays, with extended hours and programming on school holidays.
About the Opportunity
As the SHAK Youth Activity Worker, you will use your exceptional people skills to work collaboratively with high risk vulnerable young aged between 10-17 years, providing culturally safe and inclusive activities that are engaging and promote positive participation in the SHAK Youth Centre.
Note: This position is a casual position that requires shifts primarily on Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings.
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Certificate II, III or IV qualification in youth work/ mental health or other health and wellbeing related qualification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of wellbeing and youth issues relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and communities.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team as well as autonomously.
  • Prior experience or, at a minimum, demonstrated commitment to working respectfully with Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse clients, communities, staff, and Aboriginal Controlled Organisations.

Please note: It is a requirement that prior to commencing in this role, you must provide 100 points of identification to confirm Australian citizenship or eligibility to work in Australia; possess a Working with Children (Ochre Card), a current National Criminal History Check (within 3 months) and a valid NT driver’s licence.
Experience of working closely with and having a strong understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture would be considered an advantage.

COVID-19 Vaccination Status
