ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking a committed permanent Primary School teacher to commence teaching in Term 4 of 2025 or Term 1 of 2026. Our class sizes average 15–18 students across all grades, allowing for genuine relationships and meaningful impact.

At PBS, we believe teachers are the experts, not “facilitators of projects.” You will have the freedom to teach with authority, sharing your knowledge and guiding students with confidence. We set high expectations and we back our teachers to maintain them. While we work in partnership with families, we understand that real support for students comes through consistency, structure, and clear boundaries.

As a small school, you will have direct access to leadership and the opportunity to take initiative in areas that align with our vision of rigorous, values-based education.

Responsibilities:

Teach with authority, clarity, and care, using explicit teaching methods.

Design and deliver structured, knowledge-rich lessons that follow evidence-based best practice.

Participate in our distinctive co-curricular program, which includes general knowledge, public speaking, debate, and cultural traditions of welcome and service.

Integrate the school’s philosophy of wisdom, morality, and diligence into teaching and daily routines.

Contribute to whole-school activities, RFF duties, supervision, and pastoral care.

Collaborate with colleagues to maintain high academic and behavioural standards.

Skills & experience:

Strong classroom management with a calm and consistent presence.

Effective communication with students, families, and colleagues.

Adaptability, flexibility, and a growth mindset.

Experience designing structured, engaging lessons that extend student understanding.

Comfort with using technology to enhance learning.

Interest in Buddhist philosophy and values is preferred but not essential.

Benefits & Perks:

Small class sizes with strong leadership support.

Opportunities for leadership and coordinator roles in welfare, careers, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs.

Direct access to school leadership and decision-making.

Laptop provided.

Several “teacher gratitude days” throughout the school year.

Remuneration based on years of service and demonstrated outcomes.

No Saturday sport: weekends are kept free for family and community life. Staff are only required to attend two weekend events each year — Vesak and our annual Gala.

Dedicated professional learning week each year, including three camp-based days focused on team building and shared vision.

Genuinely inclusive workplace culture: guided by Buddhist principles, we prevent cliques and “staff politics.” Open, respectful debate is encouraged, and staff are never sidelined due to cultural background, beliefs, or language.

Discount for staff enrolling their own children, reflecting our commitment to community and shared purpose.

ABOUT PAL BUDDHIST SCHOOL

As Australia’s first and only Buddhist K–12 school, PBS is a pioneer in values-driven education. Our mission is to cultivate wisdom, discipline, and compassion so students can take their place in society and serve their community.

Our teaching approach is evidence-based. We follow the research on how students master core skills and recognise that knowledge must come first before critical thinking. This ensures every student builds a strong foundation for future learning and life.

Distinctive features of PBS include Dhamma classes, where students explore modern issues through timeless wisdom, and a weekly co-curricular program focused on general knowledge, public performance, debate, and the cultural art of welcoming and attending to guests — showing respect and generosity to others.

Our results speak for themselves: in 2022, PBS ranked second in NSW, behind Sydney Grammar, for the percentage of students achieving ATARs above 95.

OUR CULTURE OF TEACHING

At PBS, teachers are supported and trusted. Students need adults in authority who provide both structure and inspiration. Our staff culture is collegial, reflective, and focused on continual improvement. Systems are streamlined to reduce administrative burden, allowing teachers to focus on their craft.

We expect teachers to model concepts clearly, provide structured practice and feedback, and maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning. In return, you will be part of a team where your professionalism is respected and your voice is heard.

REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES

Attributes we are looking for in a teacher to join our team are-

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Patience, flexibility, and resilience.

A reflective, open-minded approach to teaching and learning.

Creativity in engaging students with content and tools.

High personal integrity and self-awareness.

Passion for cultivating both academic excellence and character.

An interest in Buddhist philosophy/principles is preferred.

To apply, please send your CV, cover letter, and academic transcript (if applicable) addressed to the Principal at [email protected].
