About the Role

As a Senior Strategic Planner in our Strategic Planning team within the Planning & Liveability directorate, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of the Mornington Peninsula. Our team is dedicated to providing expert planning advice, delivering high-quality programs, and supporting excellence across the organisation to achieve great outcomes for our community.

In this role, you’ll lead and manage major strategic land use planning projects, including the preparation and implementation of significant amendments to the Mornington Peninsula Planning Scheme.

Reporting to the Coordinator Strategic Planning, your core responsibilities include:

• Project manage consultants in the delivery of strategic planning, urban design and heritage projects including consultancy budgets and timeframes, assisted by the Coordinator, Strategic Planning
• Work and manage an annual work program as determined on an annual basis by Council.
• Prepare, review and develop land use and development strategies, policies, projects to help achieve the vision for the Mornington Peninsula Shire as set out in the Council Plan.
• Scope, manage and deliver the preparation of planning scheme amendments (including managing public exhibition) on time and on budget and consistent with Council policy and corporate values.
• Represent and promote the best interests of the Mornington Peninsula Shire and the community on working groups and committees, and in public meetings and panel hearings.
• Scope, manage and deliver community engagement when required.

About You

• Undergraduate Degree in Town Planning or a related discipline (e.g. environmental science, urban design, etc.).
• A minimum 4 years’ experience in a planning related field.
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of the Victoria Planning System and related legislation.
• Demonstrated ability and experience in managing projects on time and within budget.
• Demonstrated analytical, research and report writing skills in relation to land use planning.
• Demonstrated experience in communicating and engaging effectively with a wide range of people, to determine stakeholder issues and to support the provision of desired outcomes for major projects.
• Significant experience in urban planning, urban strategy or equivalent.
