Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Work Health & Safety (WHS) Specialist to lead and strengthen workplace health and safety practices across a dynamic aged care environment. This role will work closely with leadership to implement effective WHS systems, ensure compliance with legislation and standards, and foster a proactive safety culture. The successful candidate will combine technical WHS expertise with strong communication and leadership skills to drive initiatives that protect staff, enhance workplace safety, and support organisational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain WHS management systems, policies, and procedures across the organisation.
  • Lead incident reporting, investigation, and corrective action processes to ensure timely resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments, and audits, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on WHS matters, promoting a proactive safety culture.
  • Coordinate and deliver WHS training, inductions, and education programs for staff at all levels.
  • Manage injury management and workers’ compensation processes, liaising with insurers, staff, and management as required.
  • Analyse WHS data, prepare reports, and present findings to senior leadership and relevant committees.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, external regulators, and industry stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workplace safety, compliance, and organisational performance.
  • Foster collaboration and accountability across teams to embed WHS best practices throughout the organisation.

Your Profile

The ideal Work Health & Safety Specialist will be a Registered Nurse with proven experience in health and safety, risk management, or compliance within aged care, healthcare, or community services. A professional, analytical, and collaborative approach is essential in this role, with the ability to influence and partner with leaders to drive a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement.

Essential:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in WHS, risk, or compliance within aged care, healthcare, or community services o Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, standards, and best practice frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to lead WHS initiatives, conduct risk assessments, and implement safety systems
  • Skilled at coaching, mentoring, and supporting staff to meet WHS and compliance objectives
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and reporting skills, with experience collaborating with leadership and multidisciplinary teams

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health & Safety or equivalent
  • Experience in injury management, workers’ compensation processes, and WHS audits
