Aboriginal Family Support Services is a lead Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation that has been providing services to Aboriginal families and communities across South Australia for over 40 years.
Intensive Family Services (IFS)
Accepts referrals from DCP to work with families to address Child Protection Concerns and build new skills to allow children to return to their care. This program provides intensive case management support to work with families so they can address the issues that lead to removal, recognize and build on their strengths and support positive relationships with their children.
As a Case Worker you will
- Relate positively and respectfully to Aboriginal people and communities, be open to listen and learn, show humility and be non-judgemental and sensitive to individual and community needs.
- Expected to assist families to identify, acknowledge and address child protection concerns using a strength and risks-based, family-centred and culturally responsive practice approach.
- Engage with families by being empathic and building rapport; to assist the family to be motivated to change; and to build and maintain a therapeutic relationship during the course of intervention.
- Actively manage the completion of administrative tasks including data reporting and the use of AFSS processes and tools to manage workloads and priorities.
- Maintain and model an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement in the provision of services to internal and external customers.
What you need
- A Minimum Certificate IV in Child, Youth & Family Intervention (or similar, as required by our funding contracts), or must obtain qualification within 12 months of starting the role.
- A current South Australian Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- A NDIS Employment Clearance
- A current National Police Check
- A Safe Environments for Children and Young People (Through Their Eyes) Certificate
- A current and full South Australian Driver's License
- Unrestricted eligibility to work in Australia

Ideally You Will Also Have
- Qualifications in Social Work, Social Sciences or Community Services or similar.
