Are you passionate about neonatal care and eager to make a real difference in clinical outcomes? Mater Mother’s Hospital is excited to invite an experienced Clinical Nurse or Midwife to lead the innovative DEFENCE research study. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of improving care for critically ill neonates.

This is a maximum-term contract for 15 months, working 34 hours per week (or part thereof in a shared role capacity). This role is to support a multicentre project and will be looking to commence approximately February 2026

Salary range: $ $54.44 - $58.30 (RN2) per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

Why You’ll Love This Role

You’ll be the heartbeat of the DEFENCE study, reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Clinical Services. In this pivotal role, you will:

  • Lead the implementation of the SAFET bundle intervention designed to prevent medical device-related pressure injuries in critically ill patients.
  • Collaborate with a dynamic research team, healthcare professionals, and key stakeholders to design tailored strategies that fit the unique needs of the Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU).
  • Provide expert clinical care and support for our tiniest patients — from vulnerable preterm neonates to those requiring complex surgical interventions.
  • Drive cutting-edge research in neonatal skin integrity and respiratory device application, directly influencing best practices both nationally and internationally.
  • Champion evidence-based neonatal care through leadership, education, and mentoring.

This role places you at the intersection of research, clinical excellence, and compassionate neonatal care, giving you the chance to truly impact the lives of babies and their families.

What you’ll be doing

  • Co-developing site-specific strategies to implement the SAFET bundle seamlessly within NCCU.
  • Engaging nursing, medical, and allied health staff through surveys and workshops to overcome barriers and boost adoption.
  • Tailoring interventions alongside experts to ensure the SAFET bundle fits perfectly with clinical needs.
  • Collecting and analysing vital data to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of the intervention.
  • Collaborating on publications, reports, and presentations to share breakthrough findings with the wider healthcare community.
  • Upholding high standards by applying study protocols and ensuring research compliance.

About You

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Current registration with AHPRA.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in Neonatal or Maternity nursing.
  • Understanding of research principles, data collection, and analysis.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with confident use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently while fostering strong partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience liaising with diverse teams.
  • Current Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification or working towards it.
