About the Position
If you’re hands-on, love working with tools and machinery and take pride in keeping things running safely and smoothly, this is the role for you.

As the Technical Officer Engineering, you’ll provide practical, day-to-day technical support for the operation of the Faculty of Science and Technology’s engineering laboratories and workshops, with a primary focus on Civil and Mechanical Engineering and the flexibility to support Electrical Engineering as required. You’ll help maintain facilities, equipment and resources to a high operational and safety standard, supporting staff and students in the effective use of technical spaces and equipment.

Your responsibilities will include preparing and setting up equipment and materials for practical activities, maintaining and repairing tools and machinery, managing procurement and inventory, ensuring compliance with WHS requirements, supporting inductions and training, and providing technical advice and assistance for practical learning and research activities.

About You
To be successful, you will require:

  • Trade qualification in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification with relevant workshop or laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate, maintain and repair engineering workshop machinery, tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical support and guidance in engineering workshops and laboratories.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of WHS principles, including conducting risk assessments and implementing safe work procedures.
  • Strong organisational skills with experience in stock management, procurement and accurate record keeping.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to provide high quality client service and communicate clearly, respectfully, and inclusively with staff, students and stakeholders through verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to shared facilities and operations.

Additional Key Selection Criteria at Level 5

  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development and maintenance of safety documentation, including risk assessments, safety audits and standard operating procedures for engineering workshops.
  • Demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation and University policies and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure compliance and contribute to governance processes.
  • Experience assisting with planning, acquisition and commissioning of new equipment and providing advanced technical advice to support the implementation of new technical procedures and safe work practices

Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at Professional Employee 4-5. The base salary will be in the range of $70,037- $87,716 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $81,943 - $102,627 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
