One full time ongoing vacancy is available commencing 05/01/2026

The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (DLPE) incorporates the Flora and Fauna Division. This division provides scientific assessments, conducts monitoring, and develops management strategies for the Territory's unique species and biodiversity. The DLPE aligns its threatened species assessments with a Common Assessment Method (CAM) to ensure consistency with national standards and implements specific research and management programs.

As a Wildlife Technical Officer, you provide technical support and expertise to the implementation of the Management Program for the Saltwater Crocodile in the Northern Territory.

Your responsibilities involve assisting with planning, liaising with Traditional Owners, landholders and key stakeholders, and conducting crocodile population surveys and field research. This includes assisting with regulation and compliance activities, operating and maintaining field survey equipment and the collecting and recording data.

To be successful you require demonstrated experience planning and organising field-based projects and research, operating in remote field locations within marine / aquatic environments, and the ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal communities, government agencies and key stakeholders.

Certifications as a Coxswain from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, knowledge of crocodile biology and management, and experiencing using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and manual 4 WD vehicles would be well received.

In return, you will receive a competitive remuneration package, inclusive of 12% superannuation, 6 weeks’ recreational and 3 weeks’ annual personal leave, 17.5% annual leave allowance and an additional 3-day paid leave to cover the Christmas – New Year’s shut-down. Flexible work agreements, study support and career development opportunities may be available.

Enjoy an enviable lifestyle and a work life balance that allows you time to explore stunning landscapes and tourist attractions, enjoy colourful tropical sunsets, and spectacular lightning displays. You will find Territory’s rich multicultural society and community spirit makes it a great place to live, work and play.
