About the Role

We're seeking a Senior Technical Specialist IP & Security to take a leading role in ensuring the performance, reliability, and availability of one of Australia's largest carrier-grade networks.

You'll be the technical authority keeping critical infrastructure running smoothly leading complex fault resolution, driving continuous improvement, and partnering with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and vendors across IP, Transport, and Security domains.

Operating within a Network Operations Centre (NOC) on a 24x7 roster, you'll provide escalation support for major incidents, act as the decision-maker during high-severity events, and guide junior engineers in maintaining service excellence.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the resolution of complex or high-severity network incidents when not resolvable by the MSP.
  • Provide technical direction during major outages to ensure fast and effective service restoration.
  • Drive problem management, including RCA, corrective action, and closure.
  • Safeguard network performance through proactive fault reduction and optimisation initiatives.
  • Review and govern network change and upgrade plans to align with performance and reliability standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering and vendor teams to deliver network strategy, operational improvements, and technology onboarding.
  • Represent the organisation as a technical authority in Change Advisory Boards (CAB).
  • Analyse KPIs and service performance trends, identifying and driving improvement actions.
  • Support automation initiatives and fine-tune monitoring tools to enhance efficiency.
  • Deliver training and mentorship to team members and partners.

Key Relationships

You'll work closely with:

  • Network Operations and Engineering teams to implement strategy and improvement initiatives.
  • Field Operations, Assurance, and Service Management to maintain operational excellence.
  • Vendors, MSPs, and equipment suppliers to optimise service and network performance.
  • Senior stakeholders across business units to communicate status, risk, and recovery during major incidents.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
  • 10+ years' hands-on experience in IP and Security network operations across multi-vendor environments (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Fortinet, Check Point, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of service provider network design, routing/switching, and security practices.
  • Proven experience leading major incident recovery and cross-domain troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication skills able to translate complex technical details for business leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendors, influence stakeholders, and deliver projects.
  • Leadership capability with a track record of mentoring and technical guidance.
  • Experience with Service Assurance automation tools (highly regarded).

Why Join

You'll be joining a high-performing team that keeps critical national infrastructure running. Expect a role where your expertise directly impacts uptime, performance, and customer experience in an environment that values collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
