Your Opportunity
Mission Australia currently have opportunities to join us as a Case Worker in the Casework Support Program in Lismore. This position will provide support to young people aged 12 -18 in the Youth Justice System, helping them integrate with their community and address issues contributing to their offending.
The "Casework Support Program" (CSP) is a funded service of Youth Justice NSW. The CSP is targeted at young people in contact with the criminal justice system who are supervised by Youth Justice caseworkers in community offices and who have been assessed as having a medium to high risk of offending. Client goals and case plan are set by the Caseworker from Youth Justice. In this role, you will support the client to achieve those goals by offering one-to-one case work support to young people for 12 weeks, however in some cases the time- frame can be extended. Assistance may include, but is not limited to: obtaining personal identification, engaging/sustaining education and training program, driver's license support, transport to and from appointments, and participation in pro social activities.
This is an identified position under section 14(D) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and all applicants must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australians. Being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational qualification.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Assist and encouraged clients to develop skills necessary to achieve their set goals
- Providing assertive outreach due to requirement to travel and work extensively in community
- Submit weekly reports detailing hours of client contact per week (8 clients maximum)
- Liaise with the Department of Youth Justice providing casework support with participants
- Maintain client folders and documents, ensuring that all documents are completed
- Contribute to the effective functioning and development of the service including WHS requirements
Requirements for Success
- Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (a genuine occupational qualification under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW)
- Knowledge of case management and issues surrounding homelessness and an understanding of the issues that impact on families
- Experience working with young people with challenging behaviours
- Senior First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain
- Valid driver's license
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
