Are you an experienced community leader ready to make a real difference in one of Australia’s most unique and culturally rich regions? The Shire of Halls Creek is seeking a Director Community Development to provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction across community, economic, and social development initiatives.
As a key member of the Executive team, reporting directly to the CEO, you will:
Shape and deliver programs that strengthen the safety, wellbeing, and resilience of our community.
Foster a thriving, inclusive community that embraces our remote character, natural beauty, and rich cultural heritage.
Build and nurture partnerships with community groups, business, government, funding agencies, and investors to unlock new opportunities for current and future generations.
Provide expert advice and leadership across planning, social wellbeing, and community development activities.
This is more than a leadership role — it’s an opportunity to leave a legacy. Shortlisted applicants may be required to undertake psychometric and leadership capability assessments as part of the recruitment process. These assessments are designed to provide insight into each candidate’s leadership style, decision-making approach, and alignment with the Shire’s values and community-focused culture.
About You
You will bring:
Proven senior leadership experience in community development, local government, or a related sector.
Strong strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and program delivery expertise.
A commitment to equity, cultural awareness, and working respectfully alongside Aboriginal communities.
The ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on leadership in a remote and dynamic environment.
A demonstrated commitment to supporting Aboriginal employment and local workforce development.
Strong financial and project management capability, including budget oversight and reporting.
Sound understanding of governance, risk management, and legislative compliance in a local government or public sector context.
What We Offer
As part of our Executive team, you’ll enjoy a competitive and negotiable salary of $135,000 - $150,000 per annum, plus a generous range of benefits:
