About the role
Join the City of Canning on a permanent, full time basis, and work collaboratively across business areas to ensure departments understand and fulfill their obligations under Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing (PRIS) frameworks, as our PRIS Officer.
A snapshot of your new role:
Act as the primary advisor on privacy and data-sharing practices, offering practical guidance to support day-to-day compliance
Provide advice on implementation of PRIS legislation and supports City of Canning Teams across all streams of work, including training, support, reporting, change management and policy and process development
Collaborate with business areas to ensure understanding and adherence to Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing (PRIS) obligations
Governance and oversight for Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) - including guidance and oversight of PIA processes and reviewing assessments to ensure compliance for high-privacy-impact activities
Deliver targeted training to build organisational capacity in privacy compliance and ethical data sharing
Monitor privacy trends and changes in legislation, proactively updating practices and policies to remain compliant
What you will bring to the role:
Minimum 2 years experience in privacy compliance, information governance, or a related field
Strong knowledge of the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA) and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)
Knowledge of information governance, data security, and ethical information sharing with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex privacy requirements into accessible language and foster positive team dynamics.
Strong written skills applicable to developing frameworks, policies, procedures, correspondence and decisions, with proven ability to develop trust and strong relationships across business areas to ensure compliance and foster collaboration working effectively and constructively as part of a team.
A qualification, or working towards a degree in Information Management, Law, Public Administration, or a related field (desirable)
Current valid National Police Clearance.
