The Opportunity
The City of Perth is seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Community Health Officer (Food Safety) to lead critical initiatives that enhance public health. In this high-impact role, you’ll use your strong background in food safety, customer service, and leadership to guide our team and support local food businesses in achieving the highest standards.
Working within the Community Safety and Amenity team and reporting to the Coordinator Health Compliance, you will:
- Lead and inspire on key environmental health projects, with a focus on food safety.
- Develop and deliver engaging food safety resources and information for businesses and the public.
- Manage complex regulatory matters, including collecting evidence for prosecutions and representing the City in court when needed.
- Conduct environmental and public health monitoring, provide expert technical advice, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and Council policies.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
- Proven experience as an Environmental Health Officer with local government;
- In-depth knowledge and practical application of the Food Safety Act, Regulations and Australian New Zealand Food Standards Code;
- Advanced technical skills in relation to food business application assessment, investigation, inspection and education, monitoring and compliance; and
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including presentation, negotiation and conflict management skills.

Eligibility
To be eligible to work for us, you will need to demonstrate:
- A right to work in Australia (e.g. a birth certificate, current passport or current visa);
- A current ‘C’ class Australian drivers licence; and
- A satisfactory National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months).
