Talent International is searching for an experienced Data Engineer to join our Queensland Government client based in Brisbane CBD on a 12 Month Contract, with strong extension potential.

The role:
The Data Engineer will play a key role in supporting the Department's data-driven decision-making by designing, developing, and maintaining reliable, secure, and high-performing business intelligence solutions. Working within the Department's Azure-based data and analytics environment, you'll build scalable data models, pipelines, and Power BI visualisations that transform complex data into meaningful insights for strategic and operational use.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop data models, ETL pipelines, and BI reports using Power BI, Azure, and SQL Server
• Ensure data integrity, quality, and compliance with governance and security standards
• Collaborate with business units, analysts, and ICT teams to deliver fit-for-purpose data solutions
• Conduct testing, optimisation, and performance analysis across data products
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation and metadata repositories

Requirements:

• Proven experience in data engineering and BI development (3-5 years minimum)
• Strong expertise with Microsoft Azure (Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks) and Power BI
• Hands-on experience with data warehouse architecture, data modelling, and ETL frameworks
• Familiarity with data governance, security, and privacy compliance frameworks
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills
