Melt Shop Operator - Steel Manufacturing

Location: Laverton North | Roster: 12-Hour Rotating Shifts | Type: Full-Time hours/ Ongoing Role

Pay Rate: $48.23/hr (Day) | $62.69/hr (Night) + 16.5% Super

Join one of Australia's leading steel manufacturers at their Laverton North Melt Shop in a hands-on, high-impact operational role. We're seeking safety-driven, mechanically minded operators to work across furnace, casting, crane, and refining areas in a 24/7 production environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to secure long-term, stable work with excellent pay, ongoing training, and a predictable rotating roster provided 6 months in advance.

What We're Looking For

• Valid LF Forklift Licence (essential)
• Current Crane Licence (highly regarded)
• Ability to pass a mechanical aptitude test
• Prior experience in manufacturing, industrial, or heavy industry environments (steel or melt shop preferred)
• Strong focus on safety, quality, and teamwork
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to follow detailed procedures and safety protocols
• Willingness to learn new skills, rotate across areas, and support shift team success
• Commitment to maintaining high standards in safety, production, and housekeeping

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

You'll be trained and rotated across multiple operational areas, including:

• Electric Arc Furnace (EAF): Support furnace operation including lancing, tapping, and slag management
• Ladle Furnace & Refining: Monitor steel temperature and chemistry to meet production requirements
• Casting: Assist with billet casting, slide gate control, and managing breakout incidents
• Crane Operations: Operate scrap, charging, and hot metal cranes (licence required)
• Laboratory: Perform quality checks and sampling of billets and molten steel
• Maintain excellent housekeeping, follow lockout/tagout procedures, and help prepare for next shift handovers

Roster & Pay

• 12-hour rotating shift pattern:
  * 2 Days (6am - 6pm)
  * 2 Nights (6pm - 6am)
  * 4 Days Off
• Rosters are issued 6 months in advance - plan holidays and personal time with confidence
• Rates:
  * $48.23/hr (Day)
  * $62.69/hr (Night)
  * Plus 16.5% superannuation
