About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Cybersecurity Consultant with 7+ years experince to lead security projects and initiatives across our diverse client base. This role combines technical depth with strategic advisory capability — ideal for a consultant who can move comfortably between design workshops, technical implementation, and executive briefings.
You will bring strong experience in cybersecurity architecture and controls implementation, particularly across network and cloud environments. Candidates with practical expertise in firewall design and configuration (e.g., Checkpoint, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or Cisco) will be highly regarded, as these skills are essential to many of our customer engagements.
Candidates must demonstrate a minimum of 5+ years of firewall experience in design and configuration.
As a Senior Cybersecurity Consultant, you will leverage your extensive knowledge and experience within mid-tier and larger enterprise environments. Your expertise will span cybersecurity solution architecture and design, governance, risk and compliance matters, risk management, and compliance frameworks. You will play a key role in uplifting client cybersecurity maturity and supporting Cube Cyber's growing capability in advanced services such as SOC operations, cloud security, and incident response.
The successful candidate will possess specific knowledge and experience in firewall and network infrastructure, cloud architecture patterns, secure design principles, and application delivery patterns.
Key Responsibilities
Lead cybersecurity engagements from scoping through delivery across technical, operational, and GRC domains.
Conduct audits, risk assessments, and gap analyses aligned to frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST CSF and Essential 8
Design and review secure architectures, including network infrastructure
(firewalls specifically) cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), and identity solutions.
Perform hands-on technical control reviews (e.g., firewall rules, endpoint security, logging/monitoring).
Provide strategic recommendations to executives and senior management, translating technical risk into business impact.
On occasion, contribute to incident response and SOC-related activities where required, including lessons learned and resilience uplift.
Develop high-quality reports and presentations tailored to both business and technical audiences.
Train and mentor less experienced staff to build team capability.
Collaborate with Sales teams on proposals, tender responses, and pre-sales support activities.
Stay current with emerging cybersecurity threats, regulations, and industry best practices.
Essential Requirements
Minimum 7 years of hands-on cybersecurity consulting or similar experience.
Strong understanding of secure infrastructure design, including firewalls, cloud security, and identity access management.
Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, including ISO 27001 and NIST Cybersecurity Frameworks.
Proven experience with at least two of the following areas:
Security architecture and design (networks, firewalls, cloud, identity).
Incident response and SOC operations.
GRC frameworks and audit (ISO 27001, NIST, Essential 8).
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to present to executive and senior management audiences.
Strong professional report writing capabilities.
Experience conducting both interview-based assessments and technical control assessments.
Motivated self-starter with excellent project management and time management skills.
Knowledge of secure architecture and design principles and patterns.
Willingness to undertake infrequent interstate travel for project delivery.
Relevant cybersecurity certifications (CISSP, CISA, CISM, OSCP, GIAC or equivalent) highly regarded.
Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident to be eligible for this position.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Knowledge of Australian regulatory compliance requirements (Privacy Act, Essential Eight, SOCI etc.).
Experience working within large enterprise environments and understanding complex operational models.
Hands-on incident response experience and operational knowledge of Security Operations Centres (SOC) or Managed Security Services.
Vulnerability assessment and penetration testing background.
Risk management and business continuity planning.
Stakeholder management across multiple organisational levels.
