About the Business Unit:
Courts, Civil and Criminal Law supports the Attorney-General and Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) ministers to deliver criminal and civil law policy responsibilities by providing legal, policy, integrity and assurance expertise to the DJCS and Justice Ministers. We work collaboratively with key entities across the justice system and the department to ensure policy reform is strategic, relevant, holistic and people centred.
The Justice Enhancement and Sustainability team undertakes whole-of-justice-sector strategic policy, particularly related to budget, financial sustainability and efficient courts' system performance.
About the Role:
Offering an ongoing opportunity, the Senior Policy Officer will be responsible for leading the co-ordination, research, development, implementation and review, of strategic reform projects across the Attorney-General's portfolio.
Some of your duties will include:
- Researching, analysing, preparing and presenting comprehensive written materials including solution focused reports, briefings, papers and presentations on policy and program issues and options for senior management, departmental executives, government and other key stakeholders
- Developing, costing and analysing budget submissions to support stronger justice system outcomes
- Leading the preparation of complex briefings, advice, parliamentary material, and responses to ministerial correspondence, relating to Courts Policy, Strategy and Legislation unit's projects, and in particular, cross justice system policy and program matters
- Engaging, consulting, and working collaboratively with our partners across the department and the broader justice system to deliver on advice, policy, strategy, and reform projects. This includes proactively identifying opportunities to progress justice system reform in partnership with other departmental and governmental reform activities
- Developing and implementing policy proposals, programs and initiatives primarily relating to cross justice system reforms.

About You:

- Highly-developed stakeholder management, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional project management, time management and organisational skills
- Data literacy and financial acumen
- Experience in reviewing and drafting regulations, with considerations for public impact.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Economics or Public Policy is highly desirable.
