Health, Safety and Inclusion Advisor​

Term: Full-time

Remuneration: Remuneration commences from $134,593 plus superannuation

Location: Collingwood

About the Treaty Authority

The Treaty Authority is an independent entity with a mandate to facilitate the formation of treaties between the State of Victoria and First Peoples in Victoria.

The Treaty Authority’s work is grounded in Aboriginal culture, lore and law and led collectively by a panel of five Members committed to Aboriginal self-determination and empowerment. It engages with a broad cross-section of stakeholders including the State of Victoria, the First Peoples’ Assembly and Traditional Owners in Victoria. It plans to grow its team as it establishes and delivers its functions and Treaty negotiations develop.

The objects of the Treaty Authority’s work are to:

  • Facilitate the journey towards reconciliation, mutual respect and tolerance between First Peoples and other people of the State and to
  • Maintain, promote and advance the self-determination and empowerment, culture and human rights of First Peoples.

About the Role

The Wellbeing, Safety and Inclusion Advisor plays a central role in supporting the delivery of culturally safe, trauma-informed and inclusive practices across the Treaty Authority.

This role advises on psychosocial risks, wellbeing initiatives and cultural safety, ensuring compliance with wellbeing and OHS policies. Working closely with the People and Culture team, the Wellbeing, Safety and Inclusion Advisor promotes a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace aligned with the Treaty Authority’s values of Fairness, Responsibility, Honour and Connection.

Key Duties

  • Provide strategic advice on wellbeing, cultural safety and inclusion initiatives, embedding trauma-informed and culturally grounded practices across all areas of the organisation.
  • Lead delivery of wellbeing and cultural safety programs, including staff training, induction and awareness initiatives.
  • Partner with the People and Culture team to assess psychosocial risks, identify emerging wellbeing issues, and implement early intervention strategies.
  • Coordinate WHS compliance and reporting, including risk assessments, incident management, hazard logs and documentation audits.
  • Attend and contribute to WHS Committee meetings, ensuring policies and practices reflect cultural safety and alignment with Aboriginal values and perspectives.
  • Monitor and report on wellbeing and cultural safety indicators, using data and staff feedback to guide continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with First Peoples Employment Consultants and EAP providers to ensure culturally appropriate supports are available to staff.
  • Identify opportunities for cultural events, visibility and connection across the organisation to strengthen wellbeing and inclusion.
  • Develop and refine onboarding and exit processes to promote psychological safety and cultural respect throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Contribute to communication and engagement materials that promote a safe, inclusive and culturally aligned workplace environment.

Selection Criteria

  • Significant People and Culture advisory experience, with emphasis on wellbeing, safety and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated lived and community cultural experience appropriate for a cultural leadership and advisory role.
  • Experience implementing First Peoples employment strategies and trauma-informed, culturally safe frameworks.
  • Strong project management, communication and analytical skills.
  • Deep commitment to self-determination and reform that benefits First Peoples in Victoria.
