Senior Advisor, Government & Executive Services

  • $133,944 per annum + 12% superannuation

  • Wadawurrung / Geelong based (hybrid work from home - 3 days a week in office)

About the opportunity

The Senior Advisor, Government & Executive Services works within the Government & Executive Services team to deliver effective government and external stakeholder relations. This role will be responsible for identifying, developing and managing relevant executive and government briefing material and reporting. The Senior Advisor provides strategic advice to the Manager, Government Services and senior management on reputational, policy, governance and political issues. Key accountabilities include:

  • Initiate and maintain relationships across WorkSafe to identify proactive engagement opportunities to positively build reputation of WorkSafe and Victorian government in achieving community driven outcomes.
  • Work with limited direction to coordinate a broad workload including, management and oversight of internal and external communications, researching and writing Chief Executive Briefs, Ministerial briefs, Chief Executive and Ministerial Correspondence ensuring consistency in messaging, alignment with business objectives and quality and accuracy of outputs.
  • Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on legislation and policy development.
  • Provide high quality and timely advice to the Minister's Office, WorkSafe Executives, and government departments.
  • Provide support in the development of WorkSafe Victoria's responses to key priority and critical occupational health and safety and compensation policy issues as they emerge to assist in developing policy positions and recommendations.
  • Lead the development of whole of organisational responses on emerging issues with relevant subject matter experts across the business.

About you

You have experience working in a politically sensitive and policy rich environment with a proactive approach. You display initiative and feel comfortable with ambiguity in fast paced high performing team environments. You are a true team player who can support and mentor your colleagues whilst working simultaneously on your tasks. You have exceptional relationship building and stakeholder management skills. In addition, you will also possess:

  • Demonstrated experience of engaging and collaborating with key stakeholders to resolve complex issues through consultation and negotiation to gain cooperation, influence views and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent time management, prioritisation and organisational skills to effectively manage competing priorities and strategic directions and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to undertake effective research and analysis and use judgement to produce accurate and complex briefs and material.
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills including the ability to identify and monitor emerging issues and changes in the broader work environment that may impact on work objectives.
  • Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline, such as politics, public policy, communications, journalism or public relations (desirable).
