About the Role

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) are seeking three (3) experienced System Administrators to support the delivery of new digital capabilities within Forensics Command.
These roles are critical to the deployment, maintenance, and integration of specialised forensic technology systems that underpin national investigations and digital evidence management.

You will join a multidisciplinary technical environment working across infrastructure, applications, data management, and cyber security, ensuring systems operate efficiently and securely within the AFP’s technical landscape.

Role 1 – Linux & Open Systems Administrator

Specialist experience in:

Kubernetes (Red Hat OpenShift)

Linux systems (Red Hat and Ubuntu)

Elasticsearch

Hadoop (MapReduce, HDFS)

SQL databases

System monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana)

S3 storage systems

Roles 2 & 3 – Windows & Infrastructure Administrators

Specialist experience in:

Windows Active Directory (Group Policy, DHCP, DNS, WSUS)

Windows 10, 11, and Windows Server 2016 / 2022

Citrix and Citrix Workspace

SQL databases

System monitoring and infrastructure management tools

Core Skills and Knowledge (All Roles)

Proven experience in system software administration, systems integration, software configuration, infrastructure operations, and identity and access management.

Understanding or capacity to quickly learn:

Infrastructure as Code tools (Git, GitLab)

Virtualisation (VMware, vSphere)

Web servers (e.g. nginx)

NoSQL databases (e.g. Apache Cassandra)

Message queues / event streaming (e.g. Apache Kafka)

Familiarity with key methodologies and frameworks, including:

Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM) and Essential Eight

Issue tracking and collaboration tools (Git, GitLab, ServiceNow)

Cloud infrastructure environments (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)

Key Responsibilities

Support the deployment and integration of complex technical systems and forensic solutions across AFP infrastructure.

Collaborate with ICT disciplines to maintain bespoke systems and ensure interoperability.

Apply best-practice principles in configuration management, system hardening, and lifecycle maintenance.

Provide specialist technical advice to Forensics Command and technical leadership on system architecture and design.

Contribute to a secure and resilient operating environment consistent with AFP and Australian Government standards.

Travel as required to support national operations.
