Banana Shire Council is seeking a qualified Engineer – Treatment Operations to lead and support the delivery of safe, compliant, and efficient water and wastewater services across the Shire.

The Role

As the Engineer – Treatment Operations, you’ll:

Coordinate staff and resources across Council’s water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Lead strategic planning and continuous improvement of treatment operations.

Mentor staff and promote knowledge sharing across the team.

Identify and manage operational risks and ensure compliance with legislation and standards.

Oversee SCADA/Telemetry systems and ensure accurate calibration of equipment.

Manage chemical storage and supervise contractors at treatment sites.

Support capital works, asset replacement, and maintenance programs.

Assist with budget planning and statutory reporting obligations.

Contribute to disaster management and emergency response activities.

What You’ll Bring

Essential:

Tertiary qualifications in engineering (chemical, process, environmental, or related field).

Experience in municipal water and wastewater treatment operations.

Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.

Proven ability to troubleshoot technical faults and manage SCADA systems.

Queensland C Class Manual Driver’s Licence.

Desirable:

Local Government experience.

General Construction Induction Card (White Card).

Experience with asset management software and regulatory reporting.

Knowledge of Drinking Water Quality Management and Recycled Water Management Plans.
