Analytical Chemist
NSW Government Organisation – Thornleigh – ASAP start – initial assignment until 02/11/2026 – pay rate: $450 - $500 per day + super
Key accountabilities:

• Provide a wide range of chemical analysis in the occupational health and safety area using specialised instrumental techniques such as chromatography and mass spectrometry
• Undertake research and develop new methods to analyse for chemical exposure in the workplace in specified samples
• Prepare technical reports, technical publications, technical advice/papers for customers, inspectors, senior management, other divisions and the minister
• Participate on and provide technical advice to various internal and external state and national technical committees involved in the development of legislation, codes of practice, safety alerts, policies and publications in relevant field/s
• Ensure calibration and correct working order of specialised analytical equipment to ensure accurate test results
• Undertake project work that recognises emerging work health and safety issues in relevant field/s and provide recommendations for potential amendment to policy
• Decides on the correctness and appropriateness of the samples being submitted for analysis and the correctness and appropriateness of the analytical results

Selection criteria:

• Relevant tertiary-level qualifications
• Proven experience in a similar role
• High level of accuracy
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, emerging standards, research, literature and issues associated with relevant field/s
• Ability to present technical information in a way easily understood by non-technical audiences
