With a strong reputation for technical excellence and reliability, Fluid Dynamics provides solutions that optimise heat transfer efficiency and extend equipment life. We are expanding our national service capabilities and are seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Service Technician to join our team.
Position Overview
The Lead Service Technician plays a key role in delivering service excellence to our clients across Australia. This hands-on position involves preparing and completing site works, liaising with clients and suppliers, and ensuring all heat exchanger service projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to specification.
The role also includes overseeing and assisting with factory-based service works at our Hallam facility and conducting site audits and equipment condition assessments as required.
Key Responsibilities
1. Site Service & Maintenance
Prepare and execute on-site service, maintenance, cleaning, testing, and repair and testing of:
Plate heat exchangers
Tubular heat exchangers
Finned tube heat exchangers
Coil heat exchangers
Scrape Surface heat exchangers
Organise site visits, including planning resources, materials, tools, and transport.
Ensure all site works are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures.
Troubleshoot performance issues and carry out repairs or adjustments as needed.
Complete all service documentation, including inspection and service reports.
2. Factory-Based Service Operations
Participate in and oversee factory service works at our Hallam facility, including cleaning, refurbishment, pressure testing, and reassembly of heat exchangers.
Coordinate with workshop teams to ensure timely job completion and consistent quality standards.
Maintain a high standard of housekeeping, safety, and equipment readiness in the factory environment.
3. Client & Supplier Liaison
Act as a professional and trusted representative of Fluid Dynamics during all site interactions.
Communicate effectively with clients to confirm job scopes, progress updates, and completion outcomes.
Liaise with suppliers and logistics providers to arrange parts, consumables, and materials for projects.
Support the National Service Manager by identifying client needs and opportunities for service improvement.
4. Project & Cost Management
Plan and execute service works within allocated timeframes and budgets.
Ensure all work is documented and reported accurately for cost tracking and invoicing.
Provide feedback on efficiency improvements, methods, and resource utilisation.
5. Site Audits & Technical Assessments
Conduct site audits and equipment condition assessments as required.
Record findings, provide technical recommendations, and support the preparation of quotations or service proposals.
Assist in identifying preventative maintenance opportunities for clients.
Skills & Experience Required
3–5 years’ experience in mechanical service, maintenance, or fitting within the heat exchanger, HVAC, or process equipment industry.
Strong technical understanding of plate, tubular, finned tube, and coil heat exchangers.
Proven ability to carry out hands-on mechanical work and troubleshooting independently.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Competence in interpreting drawings, specifications, and service documentation.
Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Fitting & Turning, or equivalent.
Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel interstate as required.
