Our Next Waste Attendant
Reporting to the Operations Supervisor Waste Services, you will be responsible for operating within one Council's core business units.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the operations and maintain of all Councils Waste Management Facilities in accordance with relevant environmental legislation.
- Maintain effective work practices.
- Apply and ensure compliance with Council’s WHS policies, risk management and with other legislative requirements or regulations.
- Maintain effective communication links with the direct supervisor.
- Provide co-ordination for waste disposal and resource recovery to the public.
- Maintain a high level of customer service delivery.
- Operate and maintain assigned plant effectively, safely and in accordance with standing operating procedures.
- Accurately perform general Waste Management day to day operational works required associated with landfills and transfer stations to maintain Council’s infrastructure. This would typically include but not be limited to; Operate site plant and equipment, small plant and hand tools, weighbridge duties and computer program, revenue collection, resource recovery systems and processes.
- Work constructively and cooperatively with other members of the department to complete work programs in accordance with agreed timeframes and standards.
- Complete assigned administrative tasks accurately in accordance with Council’s policies and procedures.
- Maintain required qualifications essential for the position and undertake agreed training to meet the position’s desired skill level.
- Ensure that all waste to landfill is kept to a minimum and that waste minimization and recycling is maximised.
- All duties associated with the following: decontamination of green waste; sorting of steel pile and decontamination; sorting of concrete and decontamination, with bulk oil storage and recycling, carry out landscaping and related work.
- Assist salvaging material that can be sold through the second hand store at the Gunnedah Waste Management Facility.
- Support the Waste team when there are staff shortages.
Key Requirements
- Good communication and public relation skills.
- Ability to deal effectively with customers with courtesy.

- Ability and continued commitment to work according to Councils' policies and Code of Conduct, with or without supervision.
- Current valid NSW Class C Drivers Licence (ongoing employment is conditional on maintaining this Licence).
* While not required, desirable characteristics of a successful candidate could include:
- Current Work Cover ticket to operate relevant plant and equipment.
- An understanding of the principles of waste management and disposal techniques.
- Computer, Cash handling and Data collection skills.
- Current NSW Drivers License Class MR or willing to obtain license
