Casual Senior Receptionist and Kennel Attendant

About us – The Dog House Pet Resort is a family owned business that prides itself on being Geelong and the Surf coast’s premier boarding kennel, providing the highest standard of care and customer service to all our guests. Located between Torquay and Geelong.

About The Role

We are looking for a Senior Receptionist and kennel attendant to join our team on a casual basis.

You must be able to work a 7-day rotating roster including public holidays when needed. Shifts may vary from 7am-5pm and 7am-2pm. This is a physically demanding role.

Prior experience within a boarding or daycare facility is a must. Experience in a busy reception role is a must.

This is not your typical reception role! Our office team are the first point of call for all communication across our facility, including clients, animal attendants, veterinarians, suppliers, etc.

The ability to help lead dynamic teams in a fast paced and demanding environment is therefore essential.

Duties and Responsibilities when working in the reception role:

Assisting to manage the day-to-day operations of the facility

Managing a consistently busy phone line and email service as well as arrivals and departures.

Delivering personalised customer service and care

Liaising with clients, animal attendants veterinarians, suppliers, etc.

Managing, communicating and following up pet medical, behavioural or wellbeing concerns

Executing the accurate completion of office responsibilities including: high volume phone and email enquiries, online reservation requests, scheduling reservations and additional services, conducting inspections, general administrative duties, etc.

Working closely with management to improve business operations

Duties and Responsibilities when working in the Animal Attendant role:

. Daily cleaning and maintenance of the kennel and accommodation

. High observation of guests (nutrition, special needs, identifying and reporting to supervisor)

. Feeding, Administering medication and daily health checks

. Basic grooming (baths & blow-drying)

. Assisting in our enrichment program

Skills –

. Experience in a kennel environment

. Proven ability to work in a team / fantastic communication skills

. Motivated with strong initiative

. Exceptional animal skills showing a great level of care to our guests

. Knowledge in dog behaviour preferred

. Willingness to learn and adapt

. Fantastic work ethic

Key Selection Criteria:

High Emotional Intelligence

A minimum 3 years industry experience

Previous experience in a busy reception (ideally a high volume Veterinary clinic or similar)

Knowledge of dog breed, health, and behavioural requirements

Excellent customer service skills and the willingness to build meaningful relationships with clients

Strong written and verbal communication skills with a positive attitude.

Strong teamwork and collaboration skills. Willingness to jump at the chance to help others in your team and get personal satisfaction from seeing others succeed.

The ability to think practically, problem-solve and think on your feet

Great time management skills, and successfully plan your own time as well as being able to assist others to plan and prioritise their workload. Ability to work at a brisk pace and carry out tasks to required timeframes.

The ability to learn and understand complex reservation and facility terms, policies and procedures and effectively communicate and execute them

Computer literate with the ability to learn new programs with ease

Dependability and punctuality

Initiative and the ability to multitask with effective prioritisation. The ability to work independently, and willingness to ask for guidance for more complex matters

Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
